Dominoes rules

How Dominoes is played in this game, including the keys and the scoring.

Goal

Get rid of all your tiles before the others do. Every round you score the pips left in your opponents’ hands. The first player to reach the max score wins the match.

Playing a tile

A domino has two faces with 0 to 6 pips. The first tile starts the line. After that you add a tile whose face matches the pips at either end of the line.

  • Tap a tile that glows. If it fits one end it goes there; if it fits both, tap the end you want.
  • A double (the same pips on both faces) is placed across the line.
  • The first round opens with the highest double: whoever holds it plays it first.
  • Keyboard: 1 to 9 and 0 pick a tile from the left, the arrow keys or L and R pick an end, B buys a tile, Enter or Space goes on.

Draw and Block

  • Draw: you start with 7 tiles (5 with three or four players). If nothing fits you draw from the boneyard until something does, or until two tiles are left; then you pass.
  • Block: everyone starts with 7 tiles and nobody draws. If nothing fits you pass.

Scoring

  • Out: the player who plays the last tile scores all the pips left in the other hands.
  • Blocked: when nobody can play, the lowest hand wins and scores, for each opponent, the difference between that hand and its own. A tie for the lowest scores nothing.
  • The winner of a round plays first in the next one.
